List of Lanes for Tariff (Employee)

A lane links an origin / destination combination with a rate code for a specific tariff. The rate code references a set of rates which could apply to this lane only, or to multiple lanes. The List of Lanes for Tariff contains a row for each lane covered by the tariff.

While most lanes link an origin zone with a destination zone, the origin and/or destination could instead reference a hub.

Lanes are not bi-directional. If the origin and destination are not in the same zone and the tariff could potentially move goods in either direction, two separate lanes must be created. If rates are the same in both directions, the same rate code should be assigned to both lanes.

In addition to traditional Lanes (completely described by Origin and Destination), Transportation Manager also supports Lanes between a specified Origin and a specified Destination, but traversing a pre-defined set of intermediate points. The second type of lanes is available only for Tariffs with a Rate Type of 'Point-to-Point'.

For tariffs where Rate Type is ‘Round Trip’, the destination for the lane will be the point on the itinerary that is farthest from the origin location.

Lanes can optionally refer to a Commodity ID. If defined, the lane will only be used when routing a transaction that explicitly references this Commodity.

Lanes can optionally refer to a Service ID. If a Service ID is not defined, the lane can be used when routing is performed using any service defined for the tariff. If a Service is defined, the lane will only be used when routing is performed for the applicable tariff/service combination.

Note: The Rate Code must be valid for the tariff before it can be referenced by a Lane. Rate Codes can be created at the same time as a Lane by specifying Create Using Specified Value for Rate Code Control.

You must set up the zones and hubs that will be referenced as origins or destinations prior to defining lanes.

You must also set up the lane templates (intermediate through points for your lanes) prior to defining lanes with intermediate through-points.

For information about lanes in master and referential tariffs, see "Referential Tariffs: Lanes".

Lanes will refer to a unique combination of the following:

The List of Lanes for Tariff can be accessed from any of the following lists:

List

By default, the various versions of the List of Lanes for Tariff will be sorted in ascending order by Division, Service, Origin Zone and finally Destination Zone.

For information on icons and functionalities available on the list pages, see Web Interface lists.

For referential tariffs, by default, the List of Lanes for Tariff will present only the lanes specifically defined for the referential tariff. Users can elect to also include lanes from the corresponding master tariff.

Note: If the same attributes are used to define a lane on a master tariff and a corresponding referential tariff, when viewing lanes for the referential tariff and including lanes from the master tariff, two separate rows are displayed in succession.

Properties

The properties for a Lane will are maintained on a single page. Most properties are not editable when the Lane is accessed in Update mode. Depending on the source page for the List of Lanes for Tariff, some of the properties will not be editable in Create mode.

For Example: If page is accessed from the List of Origin Zones, the applicable Origin Zone will be established as a default and will not be editable.

Notes: Set the lane status to Blocked to indicate that service is not provided on a lane. This is often used as a strategy to handle exceptions. For Example: If a tariff will move freight to most of Alaska, the destination zone for a lane in Active status might refer to a zone representing the entire state while a lane in Blocked status might refer to a zone that lists the communities where service is not available. If the lane status is Inactive, routing will completely ignore the lane. Continuing the example, if the lane that refers to the zone with the Alaskan communities in Inactive, routing can use the state level lane for this tariff to move freight to anywhere in Alaska.

In Create mode, the Submit/Continue button will create the lane and keep you on the same page so that you can create another lane. The Submit/Finish button will create the lane and return you to the list from which this page was accessed.
