Overview
Charge overrides functionality in TM/TP can be used to control dock selection.
It is also possible to define constraints at tariff service and tariff lane level and have these considered when selecting docks.
Dock configuration supports a table that lists the supported dock selection constraints.
The charge overrides that influence dock selection as well as those defined at tariff service and tariff lane level are recognized by Optimizer when assigning docks. If a dock constraint is in effect for an applicable load/stop, tariff service or tariff lane, then only the docks that are enabled for that constraint will be eligible for assignment. Dock selection constraints and options will also be considered by routing/rating/scheduling when performing a request where a dock commitment is required but has not yet been created.
When docks have been configured for a shipping location, the Optimizer will not combine shipment legs if hard-constraints for dock assignment cannot be satisfied at any dock for a common pick or drop location. The hard constraints are: equipment type, commodity, inbound / outbound designation and dock selection constraints.
You can use charge overrides to specify dock selection constraints when creating a shipment. A separate dock selection constraint should be used to represent each dock attribute that needs to be controlled.
Details
Options support an Option Utilization column which will be one of these values:
If Option Utilization is “Dock Selection”, then the Data Accumulation Level must be location specific.
Tariff service setup will not allow options to be enabled as tariff charges if Option Utilization is “Dock Selection”. Similarly, auto-applied options for shipping locations will not be allowed to refer to an option where Option Utilization is “Dock Selection”.
Dock selection constraints can be defined for tariff services and tariff lanes. These constraints will refer to options where Option Utilization is “Dock Selection”.
Dock setup will allow a dock to be enabled for multiple dock selection constraints. Dock selection options will refer to options where Option Utilization is “Dock Selection”.
When a tariff service or tariff lane is duplicated, data in the dock selection constraints table will be duplicated if the Tariff Attribute for the target tariff is “Carrier Generic Tariff”, “Customer Carrier Specific Tariff” or “Generic Tariff”. When a dock is duplicated, data in the dock selection options table will also be copied.
Operations are available from the Lists of Services for Tariff and List of Lanes for Tariff that allow user to maintain data in the dock selection constraints table.
In addition to TM web UI pages that utilize an editable grid to maintain dock selection constraints and dock selection options, operations are available from the same lists that allow a user to concurrently assign one or more options to multiple tariff services, tariff lanes or docks with a single request.
Search pages for tariff services, tariff lanes and docks allow you to identify rows based on the dock selection constraints (or dock selection options) that have been configured for the parent entity.
A column in the charge overrides table provides control over dock selection constraints. Possible values for Apply Dock Selection Constraint are: “Dock Selection” and “Do Not Apply”.
Dock selection constraints are evaluated in this sequence:
If the value for Apply Dock Selection Constraint for a charge override for a load/stop is “Do Not Apply” and there is an applicable dock selection constraint for a tariff lane where the value for Apply Dock Selection Constraint is “Apply Option when Selecting Dock”, the option will not constrain dock selection before the charge override will supersede the tariff lane.
Options configured with a Data Accumulation Level of “Pick Location” will only impact stops where freight is being picked up. Likewise, Options with a Data Accumulation Level of “Drop Location” will only impact stops where freight is being delivered.
Authorized users are allowed to violate the dock selection constraints associated with a new or existing dock commitment. These would be the constraints represented by charge overrides for the load/stop plus the ones defined for the applicable tariff service and tariff lane. Authorization to be able to create this violation condition will be controlled by a new flag in the user group profile.
