Tariff versions

A tariff version is a modified copy of a tariff that retains the ID of the original. More than one version of the same tariff can exist. The effective and expiration dates for multiple versions of the same tariff cannot overlap.

You may want to set up a tariff version if, for example, you know that a carrier’s rates will be changing in three months’ time. You can set your existing tariff to expire on the day before the new rates come into effect, and create a version of the tariff that will become effective the next day, when the new rates come into effect.

By default, the effective date of a tariff version is one day after the expiration date of the tariff it is based on. A tariff version will have the same ID as the original tariff, but you can change the tariff description to identify the version.

Creating versions of a tariff saves you time by duplicating details that will not be changing. It also makes administering tariffs easier: because a tariff version has the same ID as the original tariff, external references to the tariff do not have to be updated when the new tariff version comes into effect.
