Background

Transportation Manager supports two rating units for stops:

Shipping locations support an optional cross-reference relationship to another shipping location. The cross-referenced location is referred to as the primary shipping location. If a primary shipping location is specified for a location, it must refer to a valid shipping location that does not itself reference another location as its primary shipping location.

When primary shipping locations are not configured, the number of stops and number of primary stops will be equal.

Routing will exclude tariff/service combinations where the computed number of primary stops exceeds the maximum number of primary stops.

Rating will use the number of primary stops for tariff charges where rating units and/ or lookup units and/or net effect codes refer to the unit type for primary stops.

Primary stop functionality is enabled for loads, trips, non-operational freight transactions and A/P rate calculator requests. As is also the case for number of stops, number of primary stops will always be zero when performing routing/rating requests for shipments or shipment legs, including consolidation rating performed during manifesting and A/R voucher generation.
