Fuel Surcharges – Initial Set-Up

To implement Fuel Surcharges, the following set-up steps are required:

Master Charges

Create a unique Master Charge to represent each Fuel Surcharge Type:

Range Codes

Create a Range Code using a single Range Break with Charge Type Per-Unit Rate (or identify an existing Range Code with these characteristics).

Create a Range Code using a single Range Break with Charge Type Percentage (or identify an existing Range Code with these characteristics).

Create Range Codes to meet the specifications of each unique Fuel Surcharge Contract. The Range Breaks are used to associate Fuel Price Ranges with contracted Fuel Surcharge Rates.

Tariff Charges

Activate a Condition to represent the appropriate Fuel Surcharge Type for each Tariff Service where a Fuel Surcharge is to be based on the Department of Energy (DOE) price. Use one of the Master Charges that were created to represent Fuel Surcharge Types and ensure that:

Tariff Rates

For each Tariff Charge tied to the DOE fuel price, activate a Tariff Rate for each applicable Rate Code. If the same Fuel Surcharge Rate is to apply to all lanes of the tariff, use the "catch all" Rate Code ("*").

A date range will be required and the first date range where DOE pricing will be used should be specified.

Note: It is assumed that Fuel Surcharges for a tariff will usually be based on exactly one of the DOE Fuel Prices. In this case, all that is required is a single Tariff Rate referencing the "catch all" Rate Code. If Fuel Surcharges for a tariff are based on multiple DOE prices, a separate Tariff Rate must be created for each applicable combination of Fuel Surcharge Condition and Rate Code.

Fuel Surcharge Types

Create a Fuel Surcharge Type for each DOE Price that will be used (For example: National, Southeast, Californian). Also create a Fuel Surcharge Type to represent the Gulf Coast Crude Oil Spot Price, if required.

For each Fuel Surcharge Type, define one or more Fuel Surcharge Contracts by specifying the following data:
